Mid-Year Checkup
Welcome to the June 2025 issue of Ken’s Korner Newsletter.

Mid-Year Cybersecurity Checkup.

Computer Security.

As summer heats up, so do cybersecurity threats. With more travel, remote work, and evolving attack tactics, this is the perfect time to brush up on your digital safety. Cybersecurity isn’t a “set it and forget it” system. Threats evolve, vulnerabilities emerge, and bad actors don’t take the summer off.

This month, we’re focusing on Cybersecurity Summer: Staying safe from emerging threats. Here’s a quick checklist to keep your home and business protected as we head into the second half of the year:

Phishing on the Rise:
Attackers know you’re busy (or on vacation!) and use social engineering to trick employees into clicking malicious links. Cybercriminals are increasingly using AI-generated content to mimic real people, including vendors and CEOs. We're also seeing a rise in brute-force attacks on Remote Desktop P and credential leaks from third-party platforms. Do you and your employees know how to spot AI-generated phishing emails? Look out for suspicious emails, especially those about travel, package deliveries, or urgent requests.

Public Wi-Fi Dangers:
Are you working from a café, airport, or hotel? Public networks are prime targets for hackers. Personally, I avoid public Wi-Fi. Using your smart phone as a hotspot, or a dedicated hotspot if you have one, is a more secure means of mobile access. But if you must gain access through a public Wi-Fi, use a VPN and avoid accessing sensitive data on unsecured Wi-Fi.

Ransomware Evolution:
Ransomware attacks are becoming more sophisticated, targeting both large and small businesses. Regularly back up your data and ensure your security software is up to date. Have you tested your backups recently to make sure they work?

Phishing .

Device & Software Updates:
Are all your workstations, servers, printers, and mobile devices patched with the latest security, firmware and software updates? Are you still using any unsupported software or outdated hardware?
